For those who don’t watch Showtime’s very amazing show Dexter, it’s about a serial killer named Dexter who kills people that meet his strict code (murderers, rapists, etc.) It’s morbid and totally the best ever.
One detail that I love about the show is that every time Dexter murders someone, he wears the same shirt. I call it the kill shirt for obvious reasons, though other websites refer to it as the combat shirt, kill uniform, kill outfit, etc. While there isn’t any official name for it, it looks like this:
This is the shirt that Dexter wears each time he ventures out to kill someone. And that’s Dexter wearing it.
Alternate title for this blog post: What do absentee ballots and the Dexter kill shirt have in common? They’re both in the mail.
That’s right—it’s election day. And yes—I just ordered the Dexter kill shirt. Okay, I admit, I have my own unique priorities in life. Sure, voting is important. But I think owning a kill shirt is equally more important.
I plan on wearing mine only when I’m angry. Eventually, people will notice this and talk about it when I’m not around. “You ever notice that Jesse wears the same shirt when he’s angry?” I realize that this plan may take years for people to catch on. And I’m okay with that.
If you plan on purchasing a kill shirt, don’t be fooled by those loose-fitting knock-offs.
This is a loose-fitting, cheap imitation kill shirt. More importantly, what sort of serial killer would print his name on his sleeve? The type that gets caught and goes to jail. This kill shirt is for amateurs.
The true kill shirt connoisseur will notice how the fitted style accentuates the figure, making it a perfect Halloween costume, conversation piece, or, I suppose, a nice warm shirt during the winter season.
This style of shirt is called a Henley (as opposed to a polo, a t-shirt, etc.) It’s a similar type of material to that of Long Johns thermal wear. For anyone wanting to know where they can order their very own kill shirt, check out this American Apparel Dexter Kill Shirt on Amazon. It’s the closest one that I’ve found. And I’ve spent way more hours searching than necessary or reasonable.
I can’t wait to get it in the mail and yes, I’ll take a picture of me wearing the shirt and use it as my new facebook photo. But only because you asked.
Do you plan on ordering a kill shirt? Leave a comment and let me know that I’ve given you the best Christmas yet.

I’ve got a gray version…
Not as good, huh?
I hate you.
Amateur.
You’re crazy… or angry… or ready to kill? I guess I’ll have to wait until you get the shirt to find out!
I imagine you’re going to do the same ominous looking pose when you take the picture in the kill shirt?
Of course. If anyone has the Dexter wig, let me know.
I had looked for one for like 2 months, and never found one. The closest thing I found was at Target. But this was like a year ago.
If you go on Showtime’s website there is a link that allows you to shop Dexter “style.” It is an Old Navy shirt and only $10.00.

Thanks for the link, G. But I have to say that that link is a fraud!
That shirt is really nothing like the one he wears in the show. It reminds me of what would happen if you showed a picture of Dexter to your parents and said, “I want that shirt for Christmas!” They’d end up getting you that and it’s not the right one but you still wear it and then a real fan of the show sees you one day and says, “Nope. Not even close,” and you go home crying.
Actually I work close to wardrobe for the show. The link I provided is the same shirt as MCH wears on the show. The only difference is the buttons have been replaced, but the shirt itself is the same. All of the clothes shown on the Showtime website are the same worn on the show.
Cheerz mate been looking for a tight fitted one for ages!!
Woo…You cant beat Dexter..best show ever!
Glad I could help! I just got mine in the mail. Fan-freaking-tastic.
Hey G, that’s awesome that you work close to wardrobe. I’d love to work on a show as cool as Dexter. Though I would like to say, with all due respect, that Old Navy shirt is in no way the actual kill shirt. It’s not the just buttons, it’s the fit, the collar, the buttons, the sleeves, the stitching — everything. The shirt is entirely different. Check out this comparative link — if you ask me, the American Apparel one IS the shirt. Either way, the Old Navy one isn’t:

Sorry G, I have to agree with Jesse. The shirt on the Old Navy site is TOTALLY different than the shirt he wears on the show. The American Apparel shirt is almost identical. Maybe Old Navy recently changed the style of the shirt and kept the same link? Who knows, but regardless, not even close.
Tyler — that’s a great thought. You’re probably right. In fact, I had a friend who told me to check out Old Navy because he used to see shirts like the one Dexter wears all the time. Unfortunately, lately, Old Navy has changed a lot of their styles. Perhaps this is one of them.
The link must be different. The shirt Dexter wears is made by Old Navy, but you’re correct that the link I provided is not the one. Sorry for the confusion there. I could have sworn that the actual shirt was listed through that link, and that the price was $10. Instead it is a different shirt that costs $16.50! Oops
I’ve been looking all over for this shirt to order for my boyfriend and now I’ve got it! Thanks for being the right result in a google search! (Thank goodness I at least knew the name of the shirt style.)
As someone who is in college learning to do costuming for a living, I have no doubt at all that the wardrobe designer bought Dexter’s shirt at American Apparel. It’s original location is in LA and it’s an insanely popular store. It’s considered “cheap” compared to other designer clothing stores. Chances are that the website designers did not ever contact the wardrobe department to ask where they had found Dexter’s clothes and thus, probably just found a shirt they thought was “close enough,” like all the other items on the site… and then they cleverly worked up a deal with Old Navy and a few others to make some $$$. It happens.
That sounds very likely, Katie. Thanks for the comment. Glad I could help, also. I tried to write as many keywords into my post as I could
This discovery has made purchasing the kill shirt incredibly convenient, especially after trying it on.
I am so upset I will be out of the country for tomorrow’s premiere. Regardless, I’ll find a way to view it.
Anyone miss Doakes as much as I do? “I got my eye on you Morgan!”
