Hey Mark, I think I just read your review on Apartment Ratings...did you just post one recently? I signed up to receive updates whenever someone posts a new review. I added a comment as mr_director. Let me know if that is you. I was actually going to post a portion of your review on my blog in a new post. Hope that's cool. Glad to have you reading here. That place was crazy. Move to River Park Apartments if you are still alive when your lease is up.

@Christina - sorry I didn’t post back sooner. My friend Kristin lived at U-House. They didn’t like it very much, but they didn’t want to kill themselves as much as I did, I don’t think. Doesn’t matter, though, because Kristin is my roommate at my new apartment complex. Non-student affiliated. It’s really the only way to go. Perhaps someone else is better equipped to give advice on U-House as I've never lived there. I'll see if I can get Kristin to post a comment on her experience there.

Hey, I thoroughly enjoyed your article about the Village at Science Drive. Mainly due to the fact that i just received a call from them stating that I have $70 in late fees, of course they never called me six days ago to tell me I still had fees on my account, they just waited for it to add up a little then contacted me. And this is at least the fifteenth time that they have attempted to screw me or my friends over for whatever they want. They are a bunch of crooks with only their interests at heart.

So I completely feel for you and what you had to go through, I would list everything that has happened to me but I dont feel like writing a novel tonight.

what is the U-house? I haven't heard about it yet. I have to live off campus because there isn't any housing on campus for me to stay at, that is why i am choosing to live off campus. Do you know anything about U-house?

The "college experience" happens on campus, too. So, that's something to keep in mind.

If you're definitely decided on living off-campus, and you want it be student affiliated (not sure why you would want this), then The Village may be the best of the worst places in the area (unfortunately). U-House is also another place that one of my friends used to live at and didn't hate. That's what it's about, what place do you hate the least?

Pegasus Landing (and there's another Pegasus something...connection? not sure) are horrible, from what I've heard. So stay away from those!

I think The Village is bad just because the office staff has no idea what they're doing. That's really at the core of the problem. If you're lucky enough to never have a problem, and you never have to talk to them, you might just skate by without too much of a headache.

When you move in, anywhere, be ruthless about your inventory check-in form. Mark down every possible thing -- holes in your window screen? Mark it. Carpet looks bad? Mark it. It's really safe to even over-mark things. Carpet looks okay? Mark it bad. They never follow up on those things and you'll be a whole lot more protected when it comes time to claim on your security deposit.

I'm currently involved in a horrible situation now where The Village isn't giving me back my full money because of a hole in my window screen. $40 bucks they want for that. And it's a small hole. And who the hell checks their window screen? Anyone could walk by and do that. Since when am I responsible for the exterior of the building?

That's the type of stuff that you deal with at The Village. But again, it might just be the best of the worst. In my opinion, if I have to live a little further from campus in order to not want to kill myself every time I have to deal with apartment issues, there's no question if it's worth it. It's a no-brainer.

Hi Jesse!
Thanks for the advice but I was looking for an apartment that is affiliated with UCF that is about 5 minutes away. I don't want to travel to far from the school. I need to make the decision soon and don't know if I should pick The Village at Science Drive. Any suggestions?

Thanks <3

Hey Christina, thanks for the comment. It's really all about pros and cons. Living on campus, I never had a utility or maintenance complaint that wasn't fixed immediately. They have people that know what they're doing there.

It's on campus, which means that you save a ton of gas money by not having to drive to campus. And not to mention that parking at the University of Central Florida is absolutely atrocious. Do you live five minutes away? Hope you're leaving at least 30 minutes to a hour early (depending on what day you're leaving).

In terms of space, though, the on-campus dorms are much smaller. Living off campus gives you a better sense of responsibility. You feel older. Honestly, if you hate the idea of living on campus I'd check into non-student affiliated housing. How about River Park Apartments? I know people who love living there. Rent is relatively cheap and it's not a "college crowd," really, which means not a lot of noise at all hours.

That's my advice. Let me know if you have any more questions.
